The Riviera Guide to Loafers

The Riviera Guide to Loafers

A loafer is the easiest shoe in a man's wardrobe and the hardest to get right. With no laces to adjust and no heel to hide behind, the shape, the material and the fit do all the work. We make three, each designed for a different kind of day.

The Yacht Loafer

The Yacht Loafer is the original: a streamlined suede slip on cut on a slender last, with a leather lined interior, exposed hand stitching along the apron and a rubber latex outsole that keeps the whole shoe light. It is the loafer for tailored trousers and relaxed linen, for a lunch that becomes dinner. Fifteen colors, from black and navy to beige, desert and light gray.

The Positano City Loafer

The Positano takes the same suede upper and elevates it. A higher ankle cut, a fold over collar with a discreet metal detail and a lightweight white rubber sole make it read as a shoe rather than a slipper, exactly what you want when the day begins at the office. Wear it with cropped trousers or dark denim, and let the collar show.

The Panarea Loafer

The Panarea is the sporting one. A polished silver turn lock strap crosses the vamp, and the shoe sits on a clean white rubber sole, so it slips on like a loafer and walks like something far more forgiving. Harbor walks, long lunches and evenings that run late.

Socks or no socks

Both work. Without socks, the leather lining breathes and the shoe molds to your foot within a week. With socks, choose a fine cotton in a tone close to the shoe or the trouser, and keep the ankle uncovered. Avoid thick athletic socks, which fight the slim last.

How it should fit

A suede loafer should feel close across the top of the foot when new, with the heel seated and no slipping as you walk. Our loafers are cut on a slender last with a narrow width, so if you are unsure of your size, or find yourself between two sizes, we recommend sizing up. Our Size Guide lists every size in EU, US and UK, and you have 14 days to exchange if the first pair is not quite right.
